Rocks & Crescents both finish as runners-up in regional track and field championships

The St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws track and field team gather together immediately after placing second in the Region 4-4A track and field championships held Saturday at Pass Christian High School. The qualifiers now move on to the Class 4A South State championship meet that will be held this Saturday, April 29th at McComb High School.
The regional track and field championships were held this past Saturday at various locations around South Mississippi.
The St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws traveled a short distance across the Leo Seal bridge to take runner-up in the Region 4-4A championships. The Rocks came up one point shy of a region title when they succumbed to South Pile 98-97. This is the third consecutive season the Rocks finish the region meet with silver.
The OLA Crescents traveled to Tylertown on Saturday and came away with a silver trophy in the Region 4-2A meet. The Crescents finished second to North Forrest 165-141.
The top four athletes in each event advance to the South State championships this Saturday at various locale.
The Rocks were led by double-qualifier Brandon Bordelon who claimed the region title in the 110m high hurdles with a time of 15.90 and placed second in the high jump with a leap of 5'8".
Mark Cook won the shotput with a throw of 46'3".
In the pole vault, SSC claimed three of the top four spots with William Weber claiming the region title with a vault if 11'. James Sharp was second with a vault of 9'6" and Taylor Necaise was fourth with a vault of 9'.
Davis Scharppl placed third in the 110m high hurdles with a time of 16.20 and Seth Taylor was fourth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 43.37.
Carston Raymond placed second in the 3200m run with a time of 11:24.93 and Landry Lemoine was fourth in 11:30.75.
The Crescents were paced by a first place finish from the 4x800m relay team of Isabella Breisacher, Megan Bryant, Rylie Moore and Madeline Sampson with a time of 11:07.53.
Isabella Breisacher also won the 800m in 2:42.47 followed by Moore in second with a time of 2:45.50 and Bryant in fourth in 2:50.08.
Taylor Slade won the 300m hurdles with a time of 51.80.
Grace Bradford won the pole vault with a vault of 8'6" and Bryant was third with a 6' vault.
Olivia Gelpi was third in the triple jump with a leap of 30'.
Sara Hollingsworth was second in the 400m dash with a time of 1:04.56 followed by Isabella Gelpi in third in 1:06.48.
Addison Capo placed second in the 3200m run with a time of 15:32.90 followed by Hannah Roth in fourth in 19:09.57.
Isabella Breisacher placed second in the 1600m run with a time of 6:36.80 followed by Capo in third in 6:48.00.
The Crescents' 4x400m relay team of Hollingsworth, Bryant, Slade and Isabella Gelpi placed second in 4:41.08.
The Pass Christian Lady Pirates placed fourth overall with 64 points in the Class 4A meet.
They were led by Kamdyn Skinner who won the high jump with a height of 5'. She also placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 34'3".
Mina Tran was third in the pole vault with a vault of 6'.
Christian Brown placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 70' 1 1/2".
Hayley Clark was fourth in the 1600m run with a time of 6:23.34.
The Pirates scored 45 points to place seventh in the boys division of Class 4A.
They were led by Devonte Toles who won the 200m dash in 22.89 and placed third in the 100m dash in 11.30.
Landon Wimberly placed second in the 300m hurdles with a time of 42.95.
The Pirates' 4x200m relay team of Wimberly, Damonta Toles, Issiah Tinson and Devonte Toles placed second in 1:32.02.
The 4x100m relay team of Toles, Toles, VJ Swanier and Dillon Whavers placed fourth with a time of 44.79.
The Bay High Lady Tigers scored one point to place 12th and the Tigers scored four points to place 12th. However, no Tigers advanced to the South State meet.
The Hancock Hawks traveled to George County for the Region 4-6A meet.
The Lady Hawks scored eight points to place seventh out of eight teams but did not advance anyone to the South State meet.
The Hawks also scored eight points to place eighth. The Hawks qualified Devin Ladner for the Class 6A South State meet in Gulfport this Saturday. Ladner placed fourth in the shotput with a throw of 39'5".
The Class 4A South State meet will be held in McComb while the Class 2A South State meet will be held at St. Andrew's High School in Jackson. The meets will begin at 11am. See you at the games!
