Rocks, Lady Hawks & Lady Pirates advance on the diamonds

SSC senior right fielder Ian Wadsworth gets under the ball for the put out in Friday's win 10-1 victory over the Florence Eagles in the first round of the Class 4A state baseball playoffs. The Rocks won the best-of-three series to advance to the second round where they will host Northeast Lauderdale beginning Friday.
The St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws, Hancock Lady Hawks and the Pass Christian Lady Pirates all advanced to the second round of the diamond playoffs.
The Rocks (16-10) needed three games and four days to dispatch the Florence Eagles.
In the first game, which was played on Friday, the Rocks defeated the Eagles 10-1.
Levi Knight threw a complete game on the mound for SSC to get the win and did not allow an earned run.
At the plate, the Rocks were paced by Brendan Logan with three hits while Nick Hertz, Ian Wadsworth and Reagan Corr all had two hits in the win.
On Saturday, SSC traveled to Florence to play the second game which did not end until Sunday. The delay was caused by inclement weather that passed through the central part of Mississippi.
The Rocks fell in game two 2-0. Hertz took the loss on the mound as he allowed three hits and fanned two batters. Logan, Magruder O'Bannon and JD Rutherford all had one hit in the loss.
On Monday, the Rocks sealed the series with a 9-2 victory to advance to the second round.
Corr was the winning pitcher for SSC. At the plate, Knight had two triples and four RBIs to lead the Rocks while O'Bannon had two hits and two RBIs. Hertz also had two hits and an RBI while Sonny Valentine added two hits including a double.
The Bay High Tigers (14-12) dropped the rubber game in their series with North Pike on Monday 7-1.
The Tigers scored their run in the first inning which was driven in by Cade Compretta. Gage Kiser and Dillon Folse had the only hits for the Tigers on Monday.
In game two on Saturday, the Tigers defeated North Pike 6-5. Jacob Brady got the win on the mound.
Compretta had a walk-off RBI double in the eighth inning to give Bay High the win. Kiser had three hits in the victory followed by Folse and Addison Goscinski with two hits. Compretta, Cole Brady, Tyler Strong and Dalton Dore all had one hit.
In the first game on Friday, the Tigers fell 3-0.
On the softball diamond, the Lady Hawks got a masterful two games from Rylee Swilley which tossed two no-hitters that propelled the Lady Hawks to the second round. Hancock defeated Meridian twice 13-0 and 15-0 on Friday.
In the first game, Swilley fanned eight batters and had two hits and an RBI at the plate. In game two, Swilley had five strikeouts while Brooke Fagan had a single, double and triple with an RBI. Anna Peterson collected four RBIs.
The Pass Christian Lady Pirates (16-5) disposed of Northeast Lauderdale in three games to advance to the second round.
In game one, the Lady Pirates fell to Northeast Lauderdale 5-4.
Amber Funderburk was the losing pitcher allowing five hits, seven walks and fanning seven batters.
At the plate, Marly Crawford had two hits while Emily Cuevas, Bri Smith, Caleigh Ball, Megan Funderburk and Brooke Roach all had one hit.
In game two, the Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Trojans 10-0.
Amber Funderburk was the winning pitcher striking out six batters and allowing just two hits.
Smith had three hits and three RBIs while Crawford also had three hits. Hailey Kincaid added two hits while Michaela Six, Ball and Roach all had one. Roach had a homerun in the game.
In game three, Pass Christian topped Northeast Lauderdale 6-4. Amber Funderburk was the winning pitcher allowing nine hits and tallying eight strikeouts. She also had one hit at the plate while Smith, Ball, Kincaid and Roach all had one hit. Megan Funderburk had two hits and Crawford tallied three hits.
OLA (14-5) dropped their series with Union in three games. In the first game, OLA lost 5-3 despite 15 strikeouts from Dallas Blaker.
In game two, the Crescents topped Union 14-4. Carson Cuevas had four hits and two RBIs while Abby Koons added three hits and three RBIs. Grace Breisacher added three hits, as well. Blaker added nine strikeouts in the eighth
The Crescents fell in game three 5-2 but game details were not available.
In upcoming action, the Rocks will host Northeast Lauderdale in the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs. The Lady Hawks will tangle with Region 7 winner Ocean Springs and the Lady Pirates will lock horns with Region 7 champion Ocean Springs.
