A Bay St. Louis man allegedly used a PayPal account to view explicit webcam "shows" involving minors and collected thousands of images of child pornography in the past two years, federal prosecutors said this week.
According to documents on file at the U.S. District Court in Gulfport, Peter Skladzien, a former NASA contractor who currently lives in Bay St. Louis, was charged with violations of federal statutes which prohibit a person from knowingly transporting, shipping, receiving, distributing, and reproducing, images of minors involved in sexually-explicit behavior.
According to a criminal complaint filed Feb. 27, but made public this week, officials became suspicious of Skladzien in April, 2016 when he took a trip to Thailand.
During the ensuing investigations, investigators discovered that Skladzien had downloaded more than 3,500 images and 11 videos of child porn.
During a search of his home in December 2016, investigators discovered seven computers which contained inappropriate materials.
During questioning, Skladzien admitted to surfing the web for explicit materials as far back as 2015.
He said he happened upon the websites by "circumstance."
Skladzien appeared in federal court on April 14 for an arraignment. His trial was set for June.
