Blanchard named Lindy Callahan scholar-athlete

Saint Stanislaus College senior Corbin Blanchard was recently named a Lindy Callahan scholar-athlete by the Mississippi High School Activities Association.
The MHSAA chooses one male and one female student-athlete from each of the MHSAA's eight geographical districts for the honor.
The awards are named for former longtime Gulfport High School athletic director and coach Lindy Callahan.
Blanchard was chosen as the male athlete from district eight.
Blanchard, a 6'3" 200-lb wide receiver, was a four-year letter winner in both football and soccer for the Rocks.
On the gridiron, he helped lead SSC to two Division 8-4A titles, two class 4A South States titles and two state title game appearances.
In 2016, he led the Rocks in receiving with 62 catches for 1,184 yards and 18 touchdowns.
He has been selected as a three-time All-Sea Coast Echo and All-Division 8-4A honoree.
Following his senior football season, Blanchard was named to the All-South Mississippi and All-State teams.
He was selected to play for the South squad in the Bernard Blackwell All-Star Classic which he caught the game winning 19-yard touchdown pass for the South.
For his career on the gridiron, he caught 199 passes for 3,174 yards and 31 touchdowns.
On the soccer field, he helped SSC to four Division 8-4A titles, three Class 4A South State titles and three Class 4A state championships.
As a forward, he scored 25 goals and had 25 assists in his career.
Blanchard has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his football playing career with the United States Air Force Academy.
In the classroom, Blanchard has a cumulative weighted GPA that exceeds 4.0 and is a member of the honors program and campus ministry team at SSC.
He joins Kennedy Runnell of Petal High School as the District 8 honorees.

Abby Kensington Pitts (District 1, Booneville HS), Riley Hall Bogue (District 2, West Union HS), Swayze Elliott (District 2, Oxford HS), Christian Hannah (District 3, Gentry HS), Kimberly Thomas (District 3, Humphreys County HS), Jake Fanning (District 4, Neshoba Central HS), Shanika Musser (District 4, Starkville HS), Steven Sasser (District 5, South Jones HS), Kelly Bator (District 5, Meridian HS), Randy Townsend (District 6, Ridgeland HS), Kaelyn Thompson (District 6, Pearl HS), Ryan Ivey (District 7, North Pike HS) and Courtney Wyant (District 7, Lloyd Star HS).
Each honoree is presented a $1,500 scholarship made possible by the corporate sponsors of the MHSAA. Blanchard leaves for the Air Force Academy in early June.
