Hancock County Sheriff's deputies on Friday arrested a Bayside Park man who allegedly punched and choked his pregnant girlfriend during a domestic dispute.
Hancock County Sheriff's Chief Investigator Glenn Grannan said Friday that Robert Gilbert, 29, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
According to Grannan, deputies received a report that an assault victim had been admitted at Hancock Medical Center.
Deputies responded to the hospital and spoke with the reported victim, a 23-year-old female, Grannan said.
"She stated that her and her husband had gotten into an argument and he punched her in the stomach and choked her, Grannan said. Deputies later arrested Gilbert and arrested him, Grannan said.
"We charged him with aggravated assault because of the child," Grannan said. "She is about four weeks pregnant and appears to be okay, but we do not know if there will be any long term affects."
Gilbert was transported to the Hancock County Jail where he remained in custody at press time Friday.
The victim was later released from the hospital.
