The 2016-17 area basketball season came to a grinding halt this past weekend and the three remaining teams - Bay High Lady Tigers, Bay High Tigers and the Pass Christian Lady Pirates - all suffered losses in the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs on Friday and Saturday evening.
The Bay High Lady Tigers ended their season with a 18-9 overall record and a Division 8-4A runner-up position. This year marked the first time in 6 years that a Lady Tiger team will not be in the Big House to end the basketball season.
The Lady Tigers fell on the road in the second round to the Northeast Jones Lady Tigers 56-46. No game details were available; however, the Lady Tigers ended the season with a 10th consecutive trip to the Class 4A state playoffs.
The Bay High Tigers ended their season at home with a 25-6 overall record.
On Saturday, the Tigers fell to Northeast Lauderdale in a tight game 63-60.
Jaylan Wilson scored 21 points followed by Chris Moody with 14 and Galen Smith III with 13 points.
Bay High Tigers head coach Randy McCrory stated, "We are very proud of our team. We had a good season and despite the loss we are going to miss our senior group of Chris Moody, Darius Wyman and Galen Smith Jr. I'm proud of the seniors. They have bright futures ahead of them. We are excited to see what players step up for us next year."
The Tigers also claimed the Division 8-4A title thus season.
The Lady Pirates of Pass Christian ended their season at home on Friday evening with a 19-11 overall record. They fell 56-42 to West Lauderdale. No game details were available.
